DESCRIPTION: This 18th-century engraving by Samuel Hill, titled "View of the Triumphal Arch and Colonnade Erected in Boston in Honor of the President of the United States, Oct. 24, 1789," depicts an arch spanning the street in front of the state house in Boston, Massachusetts, in honor of George Washington's visit in October 1789. The print was created around 1790 and appears as the frontispiece in the January 1790 issue of "The Massachusetts Magazine, or, Monthly Museum of Knowledge and Rational Entertainment." Hill beautifully captures the celebratory atmosphere and architectural detail of the temporary structure erected to commemorate Washington's visit.

CONDITION: Fair condition. There is spotting throughout, a narrow top margin, and rounded corners. The lower margin shows folding, and there are indentations along the paper's margin from being bound in the 18th century.
