  • DESCRIPTION: Peacefield, or the Old House, the Adams home in Quincy, Massachusetts, residence of President John Adams from 1788 until his death in 1826 and subsequently passed on to his son, President John Quincy Adams, and their heirs. Wood engraving, American, 19th century. <br><br> John Adams purchased the farm in 1787. On March 18, 1801, John Adams returned to Peacefield. Except for short visits to local family, John and Abigail were never separated and they spent the next seventeen years together on their beloved farm. John revealed in the daily routine of farming, reading, and occasionally meeting with visitors, they cherished the daily routines of life together. Abigail died on October 28, 1818 & John Adams died on July 4, 1826.
