  • DESCRIPTION: Fulton Fish Market stands two blocks south of the Brooklyn Bridge. Begun in 1822, it remains one of the last waterfront markets still in operation. New York City was surrounded by rich oyster beds and in the mid 19th century, approximately $6 million worth of oysters were consumed by New Yorkers each year.
