DESCRIPTION: A handsome double hemisphere map of the world with California shown as an island. In North America, both Baron Lahontan's fictitious R. Longue and Str. of Annian indicate the possibility of a Northwest Passage. Northwestern North America and northeast Asia are left blank and unmapped. Australia's northern coast suggests a connection to New Guinea, and the coastlines for Tasmania and New Zealand are incomplete. Above the cusp is a northern polar projection. This map appeared in Moll's "Atlas Geographus, or, A Compleat System of Geography, Ancient and Modern." London.
