• DESCRIPTION: A scarce large scale wall map of the eastern half of the United States from about the ninety-fifth degree meridian. This map was drawn by J. H. Young and engraved by J. H. Brightly. This map was first issued in 1843 and came both as a two sheet pocket map (with the inset maps of the cities on a separate sheet) and as a wall map. In the particular issue two larger inset maps have been added below the cartouche, "Map of the State of Texas", and "Map of Oregon". The map of Texas is among the earliest to show the state Texas. The map of Oregon shows it as a territory and with the northern boundary line up to the 54 Parallel.

• ADDITIONAL INFO:

• CONDITION: Good condition for a wall map on sticks. There are occasional small areas of image loss with manuscripted fill ins and areas showing light discoloration and occasional miner splitting. These damages are primarily confined to the upper portion of the map. This piece has been expertly restored and rebacked on new linen.
