Subtitled: "Washington street, with the Presbyterian Church, is seen on the left: the bridge across the Erie Canal is seen on the right, down Genesee street, and at its extremity the depot of the Utica and Schenectady Railroad". Utica developed industrially following the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825. It was chartered as a city in 1832.
