From "The Once and Future King" by T. H. White, illustrated by Fritz Eichenberg. In this scene the Wart, after having asked Merlyn to turn him into a hawk because he felt dejected and unwanted by the palace staff, is in conversation with the military trained hawks kept at the palace. He would ultimately go through a test of courage to prove himself and win the respect of his fellow birds before being turned human again. A lesson well learned, as far as Merlyn was concerned.Signed and titled in pencil. Signed on wood block. 20th Century Subjects, Genre, Literary
