  • DESCRIPTION: From the lithographic series "Pictures of War Work in England," which depicts the war effort of World War I. The series was so popular the works were reproduced and published in book format, using the same title. This is one of the original lithographs that inspired the 1917 publication. <br><br> "After the pig-iron is melted in the long row of furnaces, they are tapped and the liquid fire runs into the great ladles, and then the great cranes with their two great claws pick up the ladles and carry them off, and pour the molten metal into crucibles, where it cools into ingots." - a description from the book, "Pictures of War Work in England." <br><br>
