DESCRIPTION: This battle scene between the Monitor and the Merrimac includes other naval vessels visible just behind the ironclads. All the vessels are identified, as is the geography, under the image: "Sewals Point, Jamestown, Yorktown, Rebel Tugs, Merrimac, Monitor, Cumberland, Congress, Minnesota, Newport News." There are eight small vignettes - showing details of the ships interiors - 7 of the Monitor, 1 of the Merrimac. All of this is topped by a portrait of Ericsson and his Caloric Engine.
