DESCRIPTION: Winslow Homer was apprenticed to John Bufford in 1858 at the age of 19. This image is believed to be the first print produced after a Winslow Homer design. The figures are correct when comparing them to the other Winslow Homer skating images of the era. However, it has never been documented as a Winslow Homer image. In 1859 Homer left the lithographic firm of John Bufford and moved to New York City to begin a career as an illustrator.
