DESCRIPTION: A fine map of England from "Mitchell's New General Atlas, a 19th century map with 20th century wartime additions.<br><br> This is an unusual example of the map with manuscript additions depicting the travels of a soldier, or soldiers during World War Two. In the upper right is a blue line coming into Liverpool "with the following note: From U.S. Nov. 1943. From there he or they go to Litchfield, then onto Gloucester, than to Northampton. A separate line breaks off from Gloucester for Plymouth. Then both lines head for the Normandy invasion beaches. The one from Plymouth has a note and a date, "LCI" (LCI is landing craft infantry) "invasion June 6, 1944" (aka D Day). The one from Northampton has a date of June 17th, 1944. With a return of July 44. In the lower right is an image of a airplane headed to RAF Andover with a date of Dec. 44. The final note is from Plymouth to U.S. Feb. 45"
