A detailed map from "Atlas of Long Island, New York. From recent and actual surveys and records." Many land owners names are given. Ravenswood is the former name of Long Island City in Queens, situated along the East River. New York City businessman Colonel George Gibbs obtained and developed the land in 1814, and it was subsequently divided into nine estates upon his death in 1833. The first commercial buildings were constructed in 1875 and by 1900 the area was largely commercialized. Maps
