DESCRIPTION: Engraved by J. Duthie Sc. "Prepared Expressly for Abbotts 'Lives of the Presidents." <br><br> The Battle of Buena Vista was fought on February 23, 1847, during the Mexican-American War. The American forces were led by General Zachary Taylor, and the Mexican forces by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. Despite being outnumbered three-to-one, Taylor managed to fend off the Mexican assault.
