DESCRIPTION: "Designed by Jno. L. Morton. Engd. by H. S. Sadd." One of the early battles fought in the Mexican-American War. General Zachary Taylor engaged the retreating forces of the Mexican Ejército del Norte under General Mariano Arista on May 9, 1846. The U.S. troops met stubborn resistance until a charge by Captain Charles May's dragoons scattered the Mexican gunners, allowing U.S. artillery and infantry to advance. The location this battle was fought is now know as Brownsville, Texas. In this print Captain May has quite the head of hair.
