DESCRIPTION: Drawn on stone by Lafosse. Printed in Paris, by Lemercier, Paris. Andrew Jackson, 1767-1845. Seventh President of the United States (1829-1837). He was the first man elected from Tennessee to the House of Representatives, and he served briefly in the Senate. A major general in the War of 1812, Jackson became a national hero when he defeated the British at New Orleans. His nickname was "Old Hickory." This portrait was based on the daguerreotype taken by Mathew Brady shortly before the former Presidents death at the Hermitage in June 1845. A handsome, separately published large portrait.
