DESCRIPTION: A handsome, large scale map of North America. This is the first state of Pierre Mortier's map of North America from his "Atlas Nouveau." Mortier based this on Alexis-Hubert Jaillot's almost identical map of 1674 (Burden 438), which itself was based on the work of Nicholas Sanson. California is shown as an island.
