  • DESCRIPTION: "Reine de France et d'Ecosse." Stuart is the Frence spelling for Stewart- which Mary changed after living in France. In 1548, five-year-old Mary was sent to France. She was educated in the French court and married the Dauphin Francois. Mary, Queen of Scotts 1542-1587, was tried and executed for treason concerning plots to assassinate Elizabeth of England.
