Peale, youngest son of painter Charles Wilson Peale, accompanied this landmark naval expedition, which explored South America, Australia, Antartica, the Pacific islands and America's northwest coast between 1838 and 1842. This was the first American circumnavigation of the globe. <br><br> According to Bennett's "Color Plate Books," only 150 sets of Cassin's report were printed.
