1885-1973
George Biddle - Painter, lithographer, teacher and writer - was born in Philadelphia and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Biddle was a member of "The Painter-Gravers of America," formed in 1915 along with fellow artists Childe Hassam, George Bellows, Boardman Robinson, Ernest D. Roth, George Elmer Brown, and Leo Meilziner. After 1917, Biddle formed a friendship with Mary Cassatt, who introduced George to her niece Ellen Mary Casset. Biddle fell in love with Ellen and drew her portrait on stone.
