Jackson Lee Nesbitt

1913-2008

Painter and printmaker was born on June 16, 1913 in McAlester, Oklahoma.  He studied at the Kansas City Art Institute with Thomas Hart Benton and John de Martelly.  He worked with he Southern WPA project but in the late 1940’s fell on financial hardships due to the blossoming of the abstract expressionist movement.  He began work as an advertising executive, but continued to work quietly in his artistic style.  Thomas Benton considered him one of his finest students.  His work is in many public collections worldwide.
