1939 -
John Walker is a British-born artist and teacher, best known for his abstract works. Born in Birmingham, England, Walker studied at the Moseley School of Art, Birmingham School of Art and Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris. He has taught art at the Victoria College of the Arts in Melbourne, Royal College in London, Yale University in Connecticut and at Boston University.
He has received numerous awards and honors, including the Harkness Fellowship in 1969, Guggenheim Fellowship in 1981 and artist residencies at Oxford University in the UK and Monash University in Melbourne.
His work can be found in numerous institutions around the world, including the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, Ireland; Art Institute of Chicago; Guggenheim Museum, New York; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Tate Gallery, London; the National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.; The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; and the National Gallery of Australia.
