Adriaan Lubbers

1892-1954

Adriaan Lubbers was a Dutch artist, born in Amsterdam. He originally studied mechanical engineer because his parents weren't supportive of his artistic ambitions, but by 1914, after working in South America for a time, Lubbers decided to follow his own path. He worked with artists such as Leo Gestel in The Netherlands, and even lived at a farmhouse with several other artists for a time. In 1916 he moved to New York City, where the architecture and atmosphere of the city inspired him for years to come. His work serves as a timeless documentation of the city in the early 20th century.
