The Old Print Shop

Kenneth Hayes Miller

1876-1952

Kenneth Hayes Miller was an American painter, printmaker and influential teacher at the Art Students League of New York. Born in Oneida, New York, Millier was trained at the League and the New York School of Art, where he learned from the likes of William Merritt Chase and Kenyon Cox and Henry Siddons Mowbray. Miller had a fondness of combining old master techniques with contemporary scenery - such as women shopping in department stores - which he passed onto his students during his forty years of teaching at the League. Reginald Marsh, Paul Cadmus and Isabel Bishop are just three of the artists he taught and helped inspire over the years.
