Marguerite Kirmse

1885-1954

Was born in Bournemouth, England and came to the United States in 1910.  She is primarily known for her images of dogs and was considered during her time as the most famous artist of dogs.  She produced etchings, drawings, paintings and sculptures during her life.  She made her first etching in 1921 and before her death in 1954 had produced over 250 different etchings depicting 26 different breeds of dogs.  In 1924 she married George Cole, a dog show judge and lived on Arcady Farm near Bridgewater, Connecticut.  The couple bread Airedales, English Pointers and Setters, Irish Terriers and various Spaniels and Scotties.
