Thomas Hicks

1823-1890

Thomas Hicks was an American painter, born in Newtown, Pennsylvania. While best known for his portraits, particularly of President Lincoln, he also painted historical, literary and genre scenes. His initial art training came at the hand of relatives, to whom he served as an apprentice, before receiving a formal art education at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and National Academy of Design in New York.
