1784-1864

Born January 5, 1784, Hopkintown, New Hampshire. Joined the United States Army in 1814 as a 2nd Lieutenant after a career as a distinguished educator. Explored parts of Minnesota during two expeditions in 1817 and 1823. Died April 27, 1864, Alton, Illinois.
