Not sure if this is the same w. Burridge. Got info off internet..never tied the theatre work to the wood engravings, but believe it to be the same. NAN. *Walter Wilcox Burridge was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1857 to English parents. After working as a scenic artist at New York theatres he moved to Chicago in 1882 to continue his career at various design studios. For many years he was the scenic artist for the Chicago Opera House and the McVickers Theatre. Mr. Burridge was praised as one of the leading scenic artists and foremost foliage painter in the U.S. Art lovers often attended theatrical productions just to see his work, and a theatre with Burridge scenery publicly heralded that fact. One of his best known designs was the scenery for the original "The Wizard of Oz" stage production in 1902.
