Diana Thorne

1895-1963

Diana Thorne (1895-1963) Painter, printmaker and illustrator was born on October 7 1895 in Odessa, Russia and emigrated with her family to Canada.  She studied in Germany and in England and by the 1920’s was a noted illustrator and artist.  She is best remembered for her drawings of dogs.  She illustrated over fifty children’s books including “Around the World with Children and Dogs.” Drypoints and drawings were exhibited at Schwartz gallery in April 1929 and she was active with Associated American Artists in the 1930-1940 era.  Her work can be found in many museums including the Brooklyn Museum, Smithsonian American Art Museum, and The New York Public Library.
