1814-1886
Born in Middleboro, Massachusetts, Jerome Thompson started out life painting portraits and in 1834 he opened his own portrait studio in New York City. In the 1850's, however, Thompson exhibited a landscape painting and demand for this genre led to the closing of his portrait studio. He studied in England for a time and upon his return lived on Long Island & New Jersey. Thompson continued painting genre scenes using subjects from the New England area.
