Rudolph Rosa

During the Civil War Rudolph von Rosa was a colonel in the Union army who organized & led the 46th Regiment from New York consisting of German volunteers. The Regiment, originally about 300 soldiers in size and more well known as The Fremont Rifles, distinguished itself in a number of important battles and suffered heavy casualties - losing 199 of the originally enlisted soldiers." It is noted that he also worked for the U.S. Coast Survey department.
