Luigi Calamatta

1802-1869

In Rome Calamatta studied drawing with Giangiacomo. He took lessons in engraving from Marchetti and made his first engraving with Ricciari. He went to Paris in 1822 and was very influnced by Ingres. He made his first appearance at the Salon of 1827 with an engraving of Bajazet and the Shepherd after Pierre Joseph Dedreux-Dorcy.
