Leon J. Moran

1864-1941

Leon Moran, also known as John Leon Moran, was the son of Edward Moran and brother to Percy Moran. He is best known as a figure painter, but also produced landscapes and prints. Coming from a well-established artistic family, his father was his first teacher, introducing him to both painting and etching. His formal studies were made at the National Academy of Design in New York and, as many artists of the day did, in Europe. His work was exhibited widely in the Northeast.
