A pupil of G. Van Spaendonck, Oudart appeared in the Salon de Paris in 1819 displaying his ornithological illustrations some of which had been executed during his travels alongside Captain Cook in pursuit of the imperial interests. Oudart is perhaps best known for his work on Bonaparte's "Iconographie des Pigeons" ( 1857) Duperrey's. "Voyage autour du Monde “,and Viellot's Galerie des Oiseaux du Cabinet d'Histoire Naturelle du Jardin du Roi. Paris, 1821-26. completed in 80 numbers. This publication owed its origin, also, to the Planches Coloriees of M. Temminck, to which it is superior in the descriptions, but very inferior as to the execution of the plates. Sources: E.
