Elizabeth Gardner

Elizabeth Jane Gardner was an American painter, born in Exeter, New Hampshire. She traveled to Paris in 1864, where she took up private art lessons and became one of the first American women to exhibit at the Paris Salon in 1868. In all, her work was accepted into 25 Salon shows and in 1872 she became the first woman to be awarded the gold medal at them.
