Gustavus Grunewald

Landscape and portrait painter, lithographer and drawing teacher. Moravian, born in Gnadau, Germany and immigrated in 1831 settling in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where he taught drawing and painting in the Young Ladies Seminary from 1836-66.. Frequent exhibitor at the Artists' Fund Society, Pennsylvania Academy, National Academy, Apollo Association and American Art-Union. Returned to Germany in 1868.
