Gabriel L Miesse

The only reference this author could locate for the artist was in “the New York Historical Society’s Dictionary of Artist in America, 1564-1860” by G. Groce and D. Wallace. “Gabriel Miesse (1807-?) Engraver, Born in 1807 at Reading Pa. Miesse settled in Greenville, Ohio at the age of twenty and there spent the rest of his life. In addition to his engraving he practiced ‘Sympathetic healing’ and dabbled in real estate and politics.” He is not listed in Stauffer or Fielding. On the web there is some reference to him in 1840 as “an old doctor of medicine & surgery” in Greenville and a death date of 1856.
