Jacques-Simon Chereau

(circa 1765 – 1808)

Jacques-Simon Chereau (Paris, circa 1765 – 1808) was a French engraver and printmaker, part of the renowned Chereau family of publishers active in Paris during the 18th century. The son of Jacques Chereau, he continued the family’s tradition of producing decorative prints, including popular vues d'optique and genre scenes. Working primarily from the Rue Saint-Jacques, he upheld the workshop’s reputation for finely executed, hand-colored engravings that catered to both French and international audiences. His works reflect the stylistic and commercial legacy established by his father and grandfather, making him a key figure in the later years of the Chereau publishing enterprise.
