The Old Print Shop

Doel Reed

1894-1985

was born on May 21, 1894 in Logansport, Indiana.  In grade school he took art lessons at the John Herron Art Museum, then studying at the Art Academy in Cincinnati, which was interrupted by his service in WWI in the 47th infantry.  After the war he returned to his study in Cincinnati but was more interested in printmaking than architecture which he had been studying.

He taught printmaking at Oklahoma State University from 1924 to 1959 influencing several generations of younger artists.  He had been spending summers in Taos, New Mexico and in 1959 moved there permanently.  He was elected to the National Academy of Design in 1952.  His work is in many museums around the United States.
