DESCRIPTION: A fine large scale wall map of Rockingham County, New Hampshire. This highly detailed map is drawn on a scale of 1 1/4 miles to the inch. Each township is individually colored. There are two large inset street plans of Portsmouth and Exeter (with accompanying business directories), and seventeen smaller insets for other towns and villages including Newcastle Village, Epping Village, Gosport, Chester and Hampton Village. There are also fifteen engraved vignettes views that show notable buildings and residences in the county, including Phillips Academy, Hampton Academy, Exeter Court House, Swamscot Machine and South New Market Iron Foundry, etc. There are also a table of distances and statistical information for the county. Many homes and their owners names are given.
ADDITIONAL INFO: Backed on original linen and retains original rods. There are some manuscript additions within the map.
CONDITION: There is some splitting and cracking and an occasional minor stain. Un-restored. Overall it is in very good condition for a period varnished wall map of the period.
