DESCRIPTION: Basic City, now known as Waynesboro, is located in the Shenandoah Valley, Augusta County. Basic City was incorporated in 1890. The town was named for a new process of steel manufacturing. In 1924, Basic City consolidated with the adjacent Town of Waynesboro, the new name for the town was called Waynesboro-Basic. It was later renamed just "Waynesboro." The draftsman for this map, David C. Humphreys, was of professor of applied mathematics and later engineering at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia.
