DESCRIPTION: First edition. Engraved by J. Vallance. From John Melish's "Travels in the United States of America in the Years 1806 & 1807, and 1809. 1810 &1811." This important early map resulted from Melish's trip down the Ohio River, then overland from Louisville to Frankfort and Lexingon. He shows towns, large and small rivers, Forts Massac and Jefferson, trails and roads.
