DESCRIPTION: A fine map of Brazil from Montanus' "De Nieuwe en Onbekende Weereld: of Beschryving van America." Oriented with north to the right, this map shows Brazil from above the Amazon River south to the entrance to Rio de la Plata. It is adorned with a title cartouche incorporating European explorers and natives, plus a mileage cartouche enhanced with cherubs.
