John Tyler (1790-1862) was the 10th President of the United States, taking office after William Henry Harrison died of pneumonia 32 days into his term, making Tyler the first Vice President to ever rise into presidency. Tyler, though a Republican, vetoed many of the proposals set forth by the party, which inevitably lead to their removing him from the Republican party. He is most known, however, for annexing the Republic of Texas.
