Publisher : Signed in pencil. Robert Kipniss created "Camelback Mountain & Cloud" in 2009, using the printmaking technique called mezzotint engraving. With a mezzotint, the artist works from dark to light. First, the entire surface of the plate is ‘rocked’ or covered with a texture using a specialized tool. The image is then created by burnishing out selective areas of texture leaving varying amounts of textural ‘burs’ that will hold the ink. Mezzotint prints are known for rich velvety blacks.
