  • DESCRIPTION: This large scale map shows the United States between the termination of the Mexican War and the Gadsden Purchase and includes provisions of the Compromise of 1850. Several large territories occupy the west. They are Oregon (with all of Washington), Utah (includes all of current day Nevada and much of Colorado), New Mexico, (includes Arizona), Nebraska which includes the Dakota's, Wyoming and part of Colorado) and Indian Territory which includes all of Kansas. The map delineates the Oregon and Santa Fe trails and shows Fremont's 1842 & 1845 expeditions. This map appeared in Hayward's "Gazetteer of the United States of America."
