DESCRIPTION: A charming small-scale map of the young United States. Georgia is shown extending to the Mississippi River, and a massive Western Territory encompasses much of the interior beyond the Appalachian states. Kentucky and Tennessee are named but appear without defined borders. Both East and West Florida are included, predating the first U.S. incursions into the region. Many Native American tribes are identified, along with several western forts and settlements. Chicago is labeled as “Chickago.” The map appeared in Cooke’s Geography, published between 1800 and 1817, with no apparent changes across editions.
