Alabama Negro Baptism.

Watercolor and charcoal, c.1934.
Paper size 33 7/8 x 25 3/4" (86 x 65.4 cm).
Good condition, on thin tissue paper, several tears in the outer sheet edges and weakness in the center where it was folded. Howard traveled through the Ozark Mountains, this is likely the study drawing that traveled with the artist.

This drawing was done on the artist's second Guggenheim Fellowship through the Ozark Mountains in 1934. The Georgia Museum of Art has many of his drawings from this trip.
