  • DESCRIPTION: An unusual and decorative advertising tea label. This color woodcut was produced by Tait & Co., a major tea importing firm. Tait & Co. was formed by James Tait in 1845 in Amoy and later moved to Formosa. The tea advertised is Ooloong which is considered to be among one of the finest teas produced on the island. These labels are printed on thin rice paper and an ink that is highly susceptible to water. The prints are extremely fragile which likely explains their rarity.
