  • DESCRIPTION: A fine large-scale map of the island,.<br><br> This map shows the Long Island Railroad at it's largest extent. Includes the Whitestone and Rockaway branch's. The Port Jefferson branch extends to Wading River. Also shows the Montauk Steamboat Company's routes, NYC to Orient, Greenport, Shelter Island, Sag Harbor, Block Island and Montauk. The Montauk Steamboat Company was founded in 1853 and was acquired by the LIRR in 1899. Drawn on a scale of roughly 2 1/2 miles per inch.<br><br> Engraved by American Bank Note Company, New York.<br><br> Not to be confused with the similar looking but smaller scale map published in 1911. A scarce map of the Island.
