  • DESCRIPTION: This is one great Fifth Avenue Flag image produced. In the background is the Flat Iron Building, originally known as the Fuller Building. A 22-story steel-framed building at 175 Fifth Avenue at 23rd Street at the southwest corner of Madison Square Park. Construction began in 1901 and opened on October 1, 1902. The building was designed by D. H. Burnham & Co. and built by George A. Fuller Construction Co., whose offices originally were in the building. The building is divided into three sections vertically, like a column. The first three stories are clad in limestone, the upper stories are clad in glazed terracotta tiles, and the building is crowned by a penthouse at the top. The building is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and is a Historic Landmark. It is one of the most recognizable buildings in New York.
